It’s smooth, it’s nutty, it’s packed with almond flavor, and it’s just as easy to make as the peanut butter version.

Fresh cilantro whipped into pesto with a little toasted almonds, cotija cheese and garlic. Perfect as a spread on toasted bread rounds or as topping for fish, chicken, steak … really, the options are endless.

Smooth, creamy, luxurious, and super fast to make, you might slap yourself for not doing this from the get-go. Plus, come on, it’s unprocessed!
Nancy is the Coupon Clipping Cook, which means she not only has an astounding number of recipes to share with us (her TK recipe box is busting at the seams!) but she's also got loads of money-saving tips in her blog (she worked at a grocery store for a number of years, so she knows her stuff). She has some pretty amazing creations, like Roasted Garlic Potato Soup and Nutty Coconut Chicken. Go check them out!
Heather is a Texas native and the blogger behind Heather's Dish. She's mom to Weston, wife to Nate, and they live in Little Rock, Arkansas with their two "stubborn and saucy" dogs Bunker and Keira. In her blog, she shares her photographs, random musings (serious and silly alike), and all kinds of scrumptious recipes---and not just evil variations of her favorite mac and cheese. Her enviable TK recipe box is a testament to that. Go see for yourself!

These look like a lot of fun! Can you tell me about how long they last?
Rebecca on 4.7.2010
Auntjen- I’m going to say they last about 4 weeks. If you really double up on the salt/vodka to inhibit the mold growth you can probably stretch them out to 6 weeks, though.

Do they melt away? Or just slowly lose scent..great idea!

You also need to let it cool to about 100 degrees because almost ALL essential oils have a flash point which means the scent will evaporate and be almost non-existent if they are heated above a certain temperature, that’s why you put them in after trace when making handmade natural soaps.
I am anxious to try this to be used for car fresheners and closets also since it seems almost identical to the high priced retail versions .
