This is a German dish—pancakes with anise flavoring. Traditionally served in celebration of the new year; our family enjoys them at Christmastime. Served with bacon and sausage.
Beat eggs, then add sugar, syrup, salt, and baking powder. Combine flours. To the egg mixture add milks and flours alternately, first adding buttermilk and then rounding out with milk to reach desired batter consistency, which should be like pancakes. Add baking soda. Add anise oil to taste.
As with pancakes, cook on a hot, greased griddle.
Makes about 50.

Thanks for the review, Erika. Truthfully, I’ve never made this recipe and was looking at my husband’s grandmother’s recipe card for the ingredients and instructions. But, I’ve spoken with the more experienced women of my family to clarify the instructions and edited them here.
By the way, they all agree that since I won the red Kitchen Aid mixer with *Specken Dicken* as my comment entry, that I should be in charge of making it for the family from now on.
