Description

An aromatic masterpiece of a cocktail. Grapefruit juice and gin with a vanilla salt rim.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE SALTY DOG:
  • 1-½ ounce, fluid Grapefruit Juice
  • 1-½ ounce, fluid Gin
  • ¼ cups Vanilla Salt
  • FOR THE VANILLA SALT:
  • ¼ cups Fine Grained Salt
  • 1 whole Vanilla Bean, Seeds Scraped

Preparation

1. Moisten the rim of your glass with a little bit of grapefruit juice. (The juice helps the salt to adhere better than water does.)

2. Put vanilla salt in a shallow dish and turn the glass over into the dish to coat the rim with salt.

3. Pour grapefruit juice and gin over some ice, and serve.

If you prefer it chilled and not over ice, you can shake juice and gin in a shaker and then strain into glass instead.

FOR THE VANILLA SALT:
Combine fine grained salt and fresh vanilla bean seeds scraped from the pod. Stir well to combine and disperse beans throughout the salt.

sorry for my delayed response. Vanilla salt is very easy to make – you combine salt with the seeds scraped from a fresh vanilla bean pod. Detailed recipe with proportions is over on my blog, here: http://www.two-tarts.com/2011/03/pink-vanilla-salt.html
