My family has made Orange Julius forever, before I even knew there was a store. When I finally tried one from the store, I was disappointed because ours was so much better. I was actually offended when I made some for friends we had over and one commented it tasted just like what you get from the store. Here’s mine.
Combine the concentrate, sugar, vanilla, and milk (see notes below) in a blender. Add the ice (it doesn’t have to be exact, but if you add too much, it will water it down) and blend to desired consistency. Pour or spoon into cups and delight!
Notes:
My favorite twist on this recipe is to use lemon concentrate (or frozen squeezed lemon juice) instead of the orange. VERY delicious. But really, you can use any concentrate depending on what flavor you’re going for. I would suggest that if you’re using a really naturally sweet one, like berry juices, to cut down on the sugar.
You can make this less fattening by substituting half of the milk with water. There’s really not too much of a difference, but it’s best with all milk.

This is almost exactly how my mom makes it! I agree that homemade is so much better than store bought. I’ll have to try your lemon suggestion because it sounds great!

I tried, this it tasted so much like it! However it was a little to orangey but probably because I just didn’t do exact measurements on the orange. I threw a little whipped cream on the top and that cut the orange a bit and made it even more tasty! Thanks for the recipe!
