Description

This is the lemonade I grew up on. My grandmother makes this for special occasions and it’s always a treat! This makes A LOT of lemonade!

Ingredients

  • 12 whole Large Lemons
  • 7-½ pounds Sugar
  • Water
  • 1 whole 5-gallon Bucket With A Lid

Preparation

The night before:

Cut lemons in half and squeeze to make 1 quart of lemon juice. Refrigerate overnight. Put half of the squeezed lemons in a separate container and refrigerate overnight.

The next day:

Put sugar in a 5-gallon bucket. Add 1 gallon of warm water and stir until dissolved. Add refrigerated lemon juice and mix well. Fill the bucket a little over half full with cool water. Add the refrigerated lemon peels. Cover. Just prior to serving, add a bag of ice to the bucket.

We made it in a large PowerAide drink cooler & it worked perfectly!

This sounds excellent. Next time we have a shin-dig, I’m totally going to home depot, getting a new bucket, and making lemonade.

I wonder if I could find a nifty hand pump with which to extract it? Hmmmm.

Yes, pounds! I know it sounds like a lot, but you’re making it in a 5-gallon bucket, so it makes a lot of lemonade.

My 4 year old daughter helped me make this lemonade for her to sell on National Lemonade Day at her stand. We recieved so many rave reviews about it! Just so we could have 2 varieties to sell we added 1T of strawberry puree to a 20oz glass & viola! The best strawberry-lemonade any of our customers had ever had. Needless to say we charged $1 a cup & she made a whopping $65 after all her suppliers were paid for. I would recommend the recipe to anyone (& I have) especially for large get togethers.
