Description

I work at a small, family owned herb farm in rural Minnesota during the planting season. My favorite part is talking with the customers about what they are doing with their herbs they purchase. I get many recipes! Here is a favorite a dear customer shared with me.

Ingredients

  • 5 whole Cardamom Pods....actually, I Use 10!
  • 2 teaspoons Chopped Fresh Ginger
  • 3 teaspoons Black Tea, Or More If You Like It Stronger
  • 3 teaspoons Milk, Or More If You Like
  • 3 cups Water (approximately)
  • Sugar, To Taste

Preparation

Boil the water. You can use a teapot, a saucepan or heat in the microwave.

Prepare two coffee mugs or one large latte mug with tea baskets.

Using the side of a knife, or with a mortar and pestle, crack open the cardamom pods, and add them to the baskets along with the chopped fresh ginger. Distribute tea in baskets.

Pour boiling water over the tea mixture and allow to steep for 5 minutes.

Remove tea baskets and add milk. I like to use 1 sugar cube per serving also.

If you do not have a tea basket, you can throw it all together in one mug and then pour through a sieve into another mug when the tea has finished steeping.

Mmm! One of my favorite beverages … nothing sticky or syrupy about it, just simple pleasure!

Do you use black or green cardamom pods? Would using the wrong kind negatively impact the flavor?
