Description

This brownie has a salty, buttery crust, chocolate-y brownie, and tart dried cherries. Your tongue will rejoice!

Ingredients

  • FOR THE CRUST:
  • 2 cups Pretzels, Crushed
  • 5 Tablespoons Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup Butter, Melted
  • 1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • _____
  • FOR THE BROWNIE BATTER:
  • 1-⅔ cup Granulated Sugar
  • ¾ cups Butter, Melted
  • ¼ cups Water
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1-½ cup Flour
  • ¾ cups Cocoa Powder
  • 1 cup Dried Cherries

Preparation

For the crust, combine the pretzels, sugar, and melted butter in a medium bowl until evenly combined. Press into a greased 9×13 pan and bake at 400F for 6-7 minutes. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and let cool slightly while you make the brownie batter.

For the batter, first thoroughly combine the sugar and melted butter. Add the water, eggs, and vanilla. Mix well. Sift together the flour and cocoa powder, then add this to the wet ingredients with mixer on low speed. Once everything is evenly mixed, fold in the dried cherries and spread the mixture across the pretzel crust. Bake at 350F for 20-25 minutes.

I promise you that your taste buds and your friends and family will thank you for this one!

Made these yesterday for a girls get together. They were great! I used cherry-flavored dried cranberries because that’s the closest I could get at my tiny town’s grocery store. I used a bit more than 2 cups of pretzels, and cut the butter down to 3/4 cup in the crust…it was plenty.

Love the sweet/salty combo. Going to use real dried cherries next time for a little more zing. Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Made these today. The flavor is awesome. I did make a few changes: I used half and half instead of the water and used 3/4 C of cherries (because that’s all I had). I think that in the future I would use 3 C of pretzels to make it more of a true crust. Love that it makes a whole 9×13 pan of brownies! Will be making this again and again. Thanks!
