Put whole bananas on the grill, with skins still on. Leave there, turning occasionally, for about 20 minutes or until very soft and the skins are black all over.
Remove bananas from the grill and place on a plate. With a very sharp knife, make a slit down the length of the banana. Push sides open with a spoon. Carefully pour 1 tablespoon Cointreau into the open area of the banana. Top with 1/2 cup of vanilla ice cream and serve immediately.
This recipe is fine without the alcohol as well, or you can use another type if you prefer.
