Description

Your favorite amusement park treat made at home! Adapted from A Beautiful Mess

Ingredients

  • ¾ cups All-purpose Flour
  • ¼ cups Cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoons Baking Soda
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Granulated Sugar
  • ½ teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
  • ¼ cups Milk Or Water
  • 2 whole Large Eggs
  • ½ teaspoons Pure Vanilla Extract
  • Oil, For Frying
  • Confectioners Sugar, For Dusting

Preparation

Add flour, cornstarch, baking soda, salt, sugar and cinnamon into a medium sized bowl and whisk together until combined. Next add the milk, eggs and vanilla extract and whisk all ingredients together until batter is a smooth consistency.

Heat oil in a deep and heavy pot to about 375 F. You’ll need to fill the pot deep enough so that the funnel cake will be almost covered, so about an inch of oil. Add batter into a funnel, squeeze bottle or even a cake decorating piping bag with a round tip (which is what I used).

Once oil is ready, swirl batter into the hot oil in a free formed, spiral/round shape and let it cook. Turn it over once the bottom side is golden brown and fry the other side. Once both sides are golden brown, remove it from the oil using tongs or a kitchen spider and place on paper towels to drain. Immediately cover with confectioners’ sugar and serve while hot. Repeat with the remaining batter. Makes 6-7 funnel cakes.
