When my hubby took his first bite his exact words were – “This is good! Like, this is something I would pay for!”
In a medium bowl combine flour, 1 Tablespoon of the sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir it to make sure it is good and combined. Use a pastry cutter to cut the butter and vanilla into the dry ingredients. Add milk to form dough. Set this beautiful dumpling dough aside.
In a large pot, dump in your washed berries, 1 1/4 cup of the sugar, and water. Bring this to a boil. Drop dumplings by the spoonful into the hot boiling berries.
This is the most important step in making the dumplings! Cover the pot, reduce heat to low, and cook slowly for 20 minutes. Do not, I repeat do not, remove the lid before 20 minutes has passed, and do not stir the dumplings. They should be sitting at the top of the pot cooking.
Serve warm! You can serve with vanilla ice cream too, delicious either way! The dumplings are perfect, very light and fluffy with the perfect amount of sweetness! Enjoy!

This is a great recipe for blackberries as well! I’m glad that you both liked it, and it is definately best warm. It is good microwaved the next day too.
