Description

A healthier version of a staple fall treat!

Ingredients

  • FOR DONUTS:
  • 3 Tablespoons Sugar (for Pans)
  • 1 cup Flour
  • 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1-½ teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoons Nutmeg
  • 1 whole Egg
  • ⅔ cups Brown Sugar
  • ½ cups Applesauce
  • ⅓ cups Pure Maple Syrup
  • ⅓ cups Apple Cider
  • ⅓ cups Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 3 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
  • _____
  • Topping
  • ¾ cups Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Cinnamon
  • ½ cups Butter

Preparation

For the donuts:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Brush a mini muffin pan with butter and sprinkle sugar on top, shaking out the excess.

In a bowl, mix together flours, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. In a separate bowl, mix together brown sugar, applesauce, maple syrup, cider, yogurt, and vegetable oil.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet, and stir gently just until evenly blended. Divide the batter into the muffin pan, filling the cavities only halfway. Bake for 10 minutes

For the topping: (set this up while the donuts are baking)

Melt the butter. In a large Ziploc bag, combine the sugar and cinnamon. When donuts are still hot, brush them with the butter and toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated.

Excellent donut recipe! I got a donut pan from Sur La Table and was dying to try it out so I made these today. I also didn’t have cider, so I used apple juice, and I shook them in cinnamon sugar without brushing on the butter. They are awesome, light, fluffy and super good!

I made these this morning for a coffee time for some ladies. Everyone RAVED at how good they were and some people said they wanted a bunch more!! Iused regular muffin tins because I didn’t have minis and they turned out great!!! I also used all regulaer flour because I didn’t have any whole wheat and I used apple juice instead of apple cider because I couldn’t find it at the store, but it was still all really good!! I definitely am planning to make these again and again!!!! thanks for sharing

These were wonderful! Didn’t have a mini-tin, so I used two full-sized tins and they turned out just fine.
TFS the recipe.
Tasted great and made the house smell heavenly..

My 13 year old son (aka the World’s Pickiest Eater) LOVED them!!! I made them for his Halloween Party and the kids gobbled them up. I’m making another batch this morning!

These were so good and easy, we had more muffins than donut holes, regardless they were delicious!

Soo yummy and moist! i think next time i make these i will definitely be putting a smaller amount of batter into the muffin cups as these turned into just really tasty muffins :)

My kids LOVED the donuts and they didn’t noticed it wasn’t one of those fried ones. This recipes made 48 mini muffins for me too. Thank you for sharing. I might try to use replace the AP flour and use 100% white whole wheat flour next time.

I baked these today, this recipe yields about 48 mini muffins, possibly more.

They were absolutely delicious! Definitely a keeper.
