I’ve made these a couple of times, and everyone in my family loves them. I love that the recipe doesn’t call for lard or crisco, which give me the heebie-jeebies, and I can increase the fiber by using white whole wheat flour. I’ve tried several store-bought brands that don’t have partially hydrogenated yuck in them, and these are far better than any of them!

These were amazingly delicious! As good as any restaurant tortilla I’ve ever had, and I’m from San Antonio, Texas! Important notes: let the dough rest AT LEAST 30 minutes, but longer if you can. It makes the rolling so much easier. Also, use a tortilla press to get the basic shape, and then roll out to super-thin to get the best texture.

These tortillas are great! They’re really easy to make too. I made them using 1 cup whole wheat flour and 2 cups all purpose flour, and they came out wonderfully. I won’t be buying tortillas from the grocery store again. They don’t compare to these!

First time making tortillas and my family LOVED them! We used them for dinner and then for breakfast we spread Jam on them..YUM! This is going in my “keeper” file. Thank you for the recipe!!

These are amazing! I have never made tortillas at home before and I was shocked at how easy they are. I served them with seasoned ground beef and taco fixings and they were delicious!

These tortillas were D E L I S H! My hubby bought a tortilla press a few weeks ago and has not been able to master it..not sure if it’s the recipe he uses or user error =) I made these for dinner tonight and he is insanely jealous! I am now the tortilla maker of the house =)
Btw, I used olive oil instead of canola and they turned out great. They had more of an olive oil flavor, so I’m sure the canola oil makes a more mild tasting tortilla.

These were so easy to make and very good! The only oil that I had in the house was olive oil, so that is what I used and they came out great.

I don’t have a griddle, only frying pans (which are NOT nonstick). Could I make these in a frying pan after adding a little oil or butter? I’m afraid if I didn’t add oil, they would never come out the pan!

I’m from New Mexico and hispanic. You’re absolutely correct you don’t need lard to make good tortillas. After my Grandma’s stroke, she started making them with oil and no one ever knew the difference. Thanks for posting this.
To cookinglady, you don’t need a griddle… a cast iron skillet will do… or better yet a burner cover from an old wood burning stove. Happy Cooking!

I just finished making these! They are incredible! I used 1/2 whole wheat and 1/2 unbleached all purpose and they came out with a sweet nutty flavor. My husband loves the fact they aren’t perfectly round and they taste wonderful. I haven’t been buying store bought because of the ingredients – now I don’t have too – and soooo easy.

My son is a very picky eater, but he loves quesadillas. I’m on a mission lately to feed him foods with wholesome ingredients that are homemade as much as possible. Have you ever looked at the LONG list of ingredients in the over-processed tortillas you can buy at the store? With only a handful of ingredients and NO LARD, I just had to try this recipe. They are absolutely delicious and so, so easy to make! I will never buy tortillas again. I used half whole wheat flour, and they were still amazing. I’d definitely say they key is to roll them out as thin as you can. They will plump up a bit as they cook. Thank you for an easy, healthy recipe!

I use this recipe all the time! It’s easy to add to as well – garlic granules, linseeds and a little cornmeal all work well, and it’s great with wholemeal or malted flour. They have a slightly denser texture than bought tortillas so they work fantastically in enchiladas or layered dishes.

I have a corn allergy as well and these are great!!!

These are awesome! I have food allergies and cannot buy the ones in the store but now I make these at least once a week. We’re seriously addicted.

I have the same recipe and my fam loves them tremendously. Been making them for some time now and they are definitely fantastic. I sometimes add a little chili powder to kick them up.

I made these last night and they were so good! I wanted to try this recipe because it was made with oil and not shortening. They were so easy. I rolled them out on my pastry mat so I didn’t even need extra flour to roll them out. I will definately be making these again. Thanks for sharing!
