In a large saucepan, combine syrup, margarine and sugar. Bring to a boil, then continue boiling for 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat and add peanut butter and vanilla. Stir until smooth, then add cereal. Stir gently to coat, and then press into a buttered 9×13 pan. Cool, cut, and serve.
Wrap individual bars in plastic wrap or Ziploc bags and put in the freezer for lunches.
Note: using chocolate Cheerios makes the bars taste like Reese’s peanut butter cups.
