Wonderfully sweet.
Sift the flour. Add baking powder, salt and egg. Mix well and knead dough until smooth, about 10 minutes. Set aside for 20-25 minutes.
On waxed paper, roll out dough to form a large rectangle (12×12 inches and 1/8 inch thick). Cut into even1/4 inch wide strips. Then cut each strip into 1/2 x 1/2 inch squares.
Heat oil and fry dough squares until golden brown.
Next, in a thick bottomed pan, put coconut pani and sugar and bring to boil (you need it to be around 100C degrees so use a thermometer).
Then add the pani mixture to the cubes and mix well. Pour the mixture into a greased cookie sheet. Press firmly on the mixture until compact. (Should be about one inch in height).
Allow to cool about one hour. Then cut into squares, serve and enjoy.
Note: coconut pani or treacle is brown in color and similar to molasses.
