I love puppy chow, so I jumped at the chance to make this. I thought it would be a great substitute that would be easier to make since I usually have all the ingredients on hand. That being said, I just didn’t love it. The taste was spot on but the texture was off. I really missed the crunch of the Chex cereal. Good to make in a pinch, but I’ll probably stick to the original recipe. Great idea though – a much healthier version than the original!

I have made this twice using microwave popcorn and it is so yummy! I made it for New Year’s Eve and got so many recipe requests..and it’s about the easiest recipe ever!

I’ve made pUppy food for People for years, always with Crispex, which can be expensive!
I tried this one today, and it turned out pretty good. Not quite the same crunch as puppy food, but still good! Besides, everyone knows that the popcorn or cereal is just the vessel to deliver the chocolate-peanut butter goodness!!

Thanks so much for posting this — I’ve been looking for an easy recipe to include in teacher gifts this year! I think this is the perfect one!

I tried this one out on the Mrs. yesterday, it was a hit (of course I could cover a brick with chocolate and it would be a hit – not that I am comparing your recipe to a brick
Anyway, to get back to the subject and off my impending night of sleeping on the couch, I used microwave popcorn (we like the flavor of Orvil “White” popcorn) and half-batch ingredients (I was worried that it would be too chocolaty as the microwave popcorn doesn’t make such giant kernels).
The end result was excellent, the smaller amount of choc/pb did not fully cover a bag of popped corn but the kernals were smaller and tended to break from the mixing so it worked out well.
I under-used the powdered sugar also as I thought it would make a gooey mess but it turned out the opposite, without the sugar the chocolate tends to get sticky on your fingers.
However, despite the technical difficulties introduced by the cooks inability and unwillingness to follow the simple directions, the resultant snack was superb and quickly devoured. This was a 3-smooch dish so I was really happy!

To those wondering about microwave popcorn…I suppose it would work. Can you get plain microwave popcorn? I’m not sure you would want the buttery flavored stuff for this recipe. Report back with any findings! Enjoy!
