Super duper easy!
In a heavy bottomed pan, such as a Dutch oven melt butter over medium high heat. Spread the onions evenly across the bottom of the pan. Cook, stirring occasionally. After 5 minutes sprinkle with the salt and stir well. Then add the sugar, stir again and continue cooking over low heat for about 45 minutes. You wan’t them a perfect deep caramel color.
Once the onions are caramelized add the beans, bourbon, molasses, mustard, another dash of salt and black pepper. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to low and simmer. Cook for 20 minutes. Serve warm.
