A very old recipe from my mom, from her mom, and so on. I will use the broth from a roast that was in the crock pot all day, or just plain water with my tomato sauce.
In a small (covered) pot, add oil on medium heat. After the oil is hot, about 2 to 3 minutes, add the rice and brown for 5 to 10 minutes.
Add your can of tomato sauce and water or broth. (I do this over the sink in case it gets too hot and boils over. My pot is little.)
Put on the stove, add your seasonings, and stir. Wait for a boil and turn down to simmer. Put the lid on and wait 15 minutes, then turn the heat off and let stand with the lid on for 5 to 10 minutes. Serve.

It was just the recipe I was looking for! My family loved it and I wished I had made more

I thought it was a little salty–maybe I put too big of a dash of the Lawry’s…and I added a drained can of green chilis–maybe they added some salt. Otherwise, it’s a good recipe that I’ll try again.
