Made with dry beans, cooked overnight in a slow cooker.
Rinse and drain beans. Place in a slow cooker together with sugar, tomato sauce, onion, chili powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Cook 10–12 hours on low. Add your choice of cooked meat and simmer 1 hour longer.
If you want the beans to get done faster, or if they are too runny after 10 hours, transfer them to an oven-safe dish and bake uncovered at 325ºF, stirring occasionally, just until thickened.
