Description

I will never buy an envelope of taco seasoning again. I did not like the taste of it, but thought it was the only option. (Pictured, in a small prep bowl, is a double batch.)

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Chili Powder
  • ¼ Tablespoons Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Sea Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cumin
  • ½ teaspoons Paprika
  • ¼ teaspoons Onion Powder
  • ¼ teaspoons Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
  • ¼ teaspoons Dried Oregano
  • ½ teaspoons Cornstarch (Optional)

Preparation

Mix all ingredients together and add to ground beef or meat of choice for your recipe. Depending on the coarseness of the pepper flakes, I crush them further while mixing.

Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of this seasoning mix to 1 pound of meat, or adjust to suit your taste. I add a little water back into the drained frying pan to blend the spices and simmer it until the water evaporates and the seasoning is well blended into the meat.

Perfect! I made this tonight for the first time and just like you said, I will never buy a seasoning packet again! And even better than the taste and the price, I substituted the cornstarch for arrowroot starch and my allergic son was able to enjoy taco meat for the first time — he loved it as we all did!

Very yummy! My husband loves it and he is a major taco seasoning snob!

Best taco meat ever! Why use the packages with added ingredients, like MSG, when you can do something so much more delicious from scratch? Thank you!

I have been making this for over a year now! Just like I said i the comments the 1st time I tried this recipe, I haven’t bought a seasoning packet since!

I substitute the cornstarch for arrowroot starch (for my allergic son) and omit the oregano for him as well. It’s delicious with ground meat or shredded chicken.

I actually like the package stuff as well, (great value brand, even. gasp!). However, this was delicious! I didn’t tell anyone I was using it, so when we sat down to eat I got “this is spicier than usual” from my fiance. I used 3 heaping tbsp. per pound :-) My fire eating brother didn’t think so, though. It was simple, delicious, made with ingredients I had on hand, and I will be adding it to the recipe collection. Thanks!

This was good. I actually like the package stuff, but this is definitely a MUCH healthier option!
Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Awesome. Use smoked paprika if you have it!
