Description

This fudge is super easy and can be modified for your particular fudgy craving in plain, nut, or peppermint. Christmas isn’t complete around here without a couple of pans of this!

Ingredients

  • 1-⅔ cup Sugar
  • ⅔ cups Evaporated Milk
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter
  • ½ teaspoons Vanilla Or Peppermint Extract
  • 1-½ cup Chocolate Chips
  • 1-½ cup Marshmallows
  • ½ cups Chopped Nuts (optional)

Preparation

Beforehand: butter a 9×9 pan and measure out chocolate chips, marshmallows, and chop the nuts, if desired.

Combine the sugar, milk, salt and butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Once it reaches a full boil, let it go for 5 minutes while stirring. After 5 minutes are up, remove from heat, add your chosen flavor (vanilla or peppermint), then stir in the chocolate chips and marshmallows until fully melted. Pour into your buttered pan and smooth out. Let sit for approximately 5 hours until cool and firm. Cut into pieces and enjoy!

Notes: if you double this recipe (which I highly recommend), only do a 1/4 teaspoon of extract for each subsequent batch. For instance, a double batch would need 3/4 teaspoon and for a triple batch, add 1 teaspoon.

Garnish the top with chopped nuts or broken pieces of peppermint. Share with everyone!

What kind of chocolate chips did you use?

Christmas time so I’m back and just read your comment and review, misscrys. I have made it as a single and a double and both have always worked perfectly. Perhaps the saucepan you used had to much surface at the bottom? I don’t know? Sorry it didn’t turn out for you. It’s never failed me :-)

Read my review before making- it does not work unless the recipe is doubled.

Fudge is just a necessity, isn’t it?

A blog-reading friend of mine used this recipe with white chocolate chips and 1 1/2 tsp instant coffee for mocha fudge! Oo-la-la!

Just made my first batch of peanut butter fudge for this Christmas. I finally got myself a ‘magic pan’ for fudge and ooooh, it turns out perfect everytime. Looking forward to tryingthis chocolate version.

I’m not a fudge fan, but I thought this recipe was amazing, and all of the family members I made it for agree! Quick, easy, and delicious. Thanks for sharing!

I haven’t made fudge in years, but this recipe worked out perfectly for me. I made a double batch in a 11×13 pan. I only wanted nuts in half the pan, so I tried dumping all the nuts on top of one half after it was in the pan. That did not work well. It was hard to mix them in and the top was rough looking. Next time I’ll put the nut ones and the plain ones in two different pans so I can mix the nuts in properly.

I have made this 3 times- the first time, I doubled the recipe and it was PERFECT. HEAVEN, AMAZING! I had always heard how hard fudge was to make and was just so pleased for myself, so a week later, I made it again- only the recipe as written (not doubled) and before I even started stirring in the marshmallows/chocolate, it turned into crumbles. My daughter still happily enjoyed the crumbles, but I was sad.

The next day (today), I decided to see if it was the fact that I halved the recipe. Sure enough, it was just perfect again today. I think 5 minutes of boiling is too much for half the volume if you do not double. I am not sure what the adequate time should be, but 5 minutes is too long. I think I will just double the recipe though, it definitely all gets eaten!
