Description

This recipe has been a Christmas tradition in our home since I was a small child. Make it in a bundt pan and by all means, don’t forget to make the Amber sauce to go with it. Serve the sauce warm.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Flour
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoons Cloves
  • 1-½ cup Sugar
  • ½ cups Crisco
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 1 cup Unsweetened Applesauce
  • 1 cup Raisins
  • 1 cup Chopped Walnuts
  • _____
  • AMBER SAUCE INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 cup Butter
  • 2 cups Brown Sugar
  • 1-½ cup Evaporated Milk
  • 1-½ teaspoon Cinnamon

Preparation

Sift together first 6 ingredients (I just use a whisk) and set aside. Cream together the sugar and Crisco, then add the eggs, one at a time; beat well. Add applesauce. Add the dry ingredients a little at a time, mixing well. Stir in the raisins and walnuts. Bake at 350 degrees, for 35 to 40 minutes.

Amber Sauce:

In a double boiler, melt butter. Add brown sugar, whisk in evaporated milk and cinnamon. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes. This sauce reheats nicely in a microwave oven.
