A nice bartender in San Diego taught me this trick. I was aboard the U.S.S. Midway for a work-related event and I had asked for a ginger ale at the bar. (Afterall, booze and work functions don’t mix.) She said she didn’t have any, but she could fudge one really well. Boy, did she!!! She used Sierra Mist (that stuff is EVERYWHERE in California!) and Pepsi, but any lemon-lime and cola combo will work.
Pour lemon-lime soda into glass. While stirring with a swizzle stick, spoon, straw, knife, finger, etc. add JUST enough cola to turn the soda a light caramel color. Serve with confidence. Relax and realize that your teetotaling guests will never know that you forgot to buy “real” ginger ale.

We use this trick at my restaurant/bar because we don’t carry ginger ale. No one ever knows the difference!
