I was taught how to make this when I was a child, and every birthday party in our family was preceded by a messy morning in my Nana’s kitchen baking these delicious treats. They’re great for everyone of all ages, and they’re kind of cheating because they require way too little effort, and way too much chocolate, which makes them my kinda treat.
Use the best eating chocolate you can buy and cut it into small chunks with a knife – it makes a huge difference. Also, use cocoa powder, the bitter kind, not hot chocolate mix.
Throw everything except the nuts and chocolate chunks into a bowl, and mix up with your hands. Add the nuts and chocolate chunks, and stir well.
Grease a 10″x12″ baking tray (with sides), and put the mixture into the tray. It won’t pour, so you’ll have to push it into the corners with a spoon. Bake at 160°C/320°F for about 35-40 minutes. Eat warm with lots of cold milk.
