Delicious, elegant, and simple whole poached pears will delight your guests and please your taste buds.
Wash pears. Using a melon baller, scoop out the inside seeds from the bottom. Using a peeler, gently peel the skin off of the entire pear, leaving the stem intact. (Try to find firms pears with stems.) Run the peeler over the pear to smooth out the lines.
Place pears in a large pot and cover with cider. You may also use apple juice, water and sugar, or wine. Add the spices and stir.
Bring to a boil and simmer covered for 20-25 minutes till tender.
Scoop out a few spoonfuls of the cider syryp into a small saucepan and reduce till thickened. You can add a bit of sugar if desired.
Plate each pear and drizzle the cider reduction over the top.
