An oldie but a goodie. It’s not summertime without strawberry shortcake.
Preheat oven to 350 F. Spray a square 8-by-8-inch baking pan with nonstick spray and set aside.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Cut up the shortening into chunks and add it into the flour mixture. Cut it into the flour mixture with a pastry blender until no big lumps remain. Add the milk and stir to combine. If it still seems a bit dry or floury, add up to 1/4 cup more milk.
Add dough to the prepared pan and spread it out to the sides. Bake for 20-30 minutes, until golden brown around edges. Serve with your favorite berries, and enjoy!
