Another yummy Dutch treat, reserved for Tulip Festival, Christmas morning, or New Year’s Eve!
In a large bowl, mix yeast, 1 cup warm water, and sugar; stir until dissolved. Add salt, cinnamon, remaining cup of warm water, milk and flour as well as raisins or apples if you choose. Let rise for 1 hour in warm spot.
Drop in hot oil in a deep fryer by tablespoonfuls, until brown on both sides. Take out with a slotted spoon to help drain the oil, and roll in sugar.
I always add raisins a bit at a time.

I just had my first oliebollen(s) in The Hague and Amsterdam 2 weeks ago during a fabulous trip to the Netherlands and Germany. I am addicted. They are the best fried dough treats I’ve ever eaten. EVER. I loved the applebollen and the raisinbollen. Awesome. You made my day, month, year by posting this recipe. Can’t wait to make them for my family!

I’ll have to try this one! My mom made these, but no one has the recipe! I do remember raisins, but not apples.
