Description

So easy to make and you don’t have to bake it! Everybody has a favorite chocolate pie that her grandmother made, and this is it.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cooked Pie Shell
  • 6 Tablespoons Flour
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • ¼ cups Cocoa Powder
  • Salt
  • 3 Egg Yolks, Save Whites
  • 3 cups Evaporated Milk
  • Cream Of Tartar
  • ¼ cups Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla

Preparation

Mix together flour, sugar, cocoa, and a dash of salt. Pour over beaten egg yolks and milk. Cook at 2-minute intervals in the microwave until it gets to thick pudding consistency. Add vanilla in last. Pour into cooked crust.

Beat egg whites with a little cream of tartar and a 1/4 cup sugar and a little vanilla. Put on top of pie, making sure to cover everything. Place in broiler and do not walk away. Take it out when the top of the pie is a light golden color.

Refrigerate to store.

I made this for my nephew’s birthday – he loves chocolate pie. It was great and I’ve already been requested to make another one. I made a couple of changes. I used a purchased graham cracker crust and whip cream for a topping rather than meringue. (I am housesitting for my brother so there were no pie pans or mixers)

I cooked this on top of the stove so used a little less flour (about 4 T). Put all the ingredients in a pan over medium heat and whisked until it came to a boil. Cooked it about a minute or two longer until it was thick. I also added a teaspoon of vanilla before pouring it into the pie shell.
