Another favorite of mine and my family’s and the most requested pie of any recipe I have. This is the first dessert to vanish on any dessert table.
Note: the prep time includes cooling down the filling.
Bake pie crust as directed.
In the top of a double boiler, heat condensed milk, chocolate, and salt, stirring constantly till thick. Add water or coffee slowly. Stir till blended. Stir occasionally till thickened again.
Cool to room temperature. Stir in vanilla.
Optional: with a brush, paint melted chocolate on the bottom of the crust, sprinkle with nuts and /or coconut.
Beat whipping cream till stiff peaks form and fold into the chocolate mixture. Pour into baked and cooled pie crust.
Top with Cool Whip and refrigerate till cold.

I like that this doesn’t use eggs, but it needed only half the salt.

I made your pie on Xmas morning and it never did set up. I was very disappointed in this recipe.

This is just what I was looking for. I just finished making (Coconut) Egg Nog Cream Pie by Lauren’s Latest (in her TastyKitchen recipe box) which is a keeper, and had one pie crust remaining. I will be making this a little later on as I have to get the unsweetened chocolate bar. I’ll let you know how this turned out.
Thanks!
