Invented by the boys at Eton School, a smashed up mess of strawberries, cream and meringue is the perfect dessert.
Hull and quarter the strawberries and place in a bowl with the balsamic and sugar; mix together gently. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, whip the cream until it is thick but still soft. Bash up the meringues into small chunks and dump into the cream. Add raspberries and strawberries (leaving a few aside to garnish if you want to be all posh) and fold together gently.
Serve immediately (you can make it in advance if you want, but the meringues will go soft).
I use the store-bought meringues but you can make your own if you want, or if you screwed up a pavlova, use that instead.

I love this traditional dessert! you have some interesting variations in this version. rest assured, however, that the boys at Eton College did not create this, but rather the cooks!
