Homemade chocolate sauce to dress up a box cake. Serve with whipped cream and chocolate shavings for an impressive but easy dessert.
Combine sugar, flour, salt and cocoa, then add water and stir to combine. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly and bring to a full, rolling boil. Remove from heat.
Stir in butter and vanilla. Cool slightly before serving over cake.
To serve, pour on top of individual cake servings until an excessive lake has formed around the cake. Top generously with whipped cream and shaved chocolate. Sauce can be stored in refrigerator for a few days.
