A super easy, super fast dessert! A sweet and salty butterscotch bottom and any topping you want. The possibilities are endless!
Preheat oven to 350ºF.
Line a half-sheet baking sheet with tin foil or parchment paper and spray it with some nonstick spray.
Lay out the saltines on the baking sheet in a fairly even layer.
Melt butter and brown sugar together in a heavy sauce pan. Bring to a boil. Boil together for 1-2 minutes. You just want to let it caramelize together.
Pour the sugar/butter mixture over the saltines. Get the saltines well coated. Put it in the oven and bake for 7-10 minutes.
As soon as it comes out of the oven, sprinkle on the chocolate chips. Give it a minute to start melting and spread it a bit with an offset spatula or just a butter knife. While it is still wet, sprinkle on the Reese’s pieces and pretzel sticks. Stick in the fridge to firm up a bit. Once it is firm enough, remove it from the baking sheet by the tin foil and peel away the tin foil. This can be cut into pieces or broken like bark. This can also be frozen, making it a great make ahead potluck treat!
For the purposes of this recipe I used the above toppings, but you can get as creative as you wish. My husband prefers this with white chocolate and pretzel bits. If you use white chocolate, melt it separately and drizzle or pour it over the top. I’ve used milk chocolate pieces, broken graham crackers and marshmallows, then I popped it under the broiler for a minute to toast the marshmallows before I served it. A friend puts potato chips on the melted chips and then drizzles it with white chocolate. My boys like it with crushed Oreos over the melted chocolate chips and gummy worms!
Have fun with it!
