This is the pecan pie that I grew up with. I have never found one that I like better.
Combine sugar, syrup, and butter in a medium saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves and butter is melted. Let cool slightly.
Whisk together eggs, salt, and vanilla and, while whisking, slowly add the sugar mixture to the egg mixture. When smooth, stir in pecans.
Pour into a 9-inch pie shell and bake for 50–55 minutes at 325ºF until top is nice and brown. Cool on a wire rack.
