While these apples bake in a conventional (or microwave) oven, they will make their own caramel sauce. Firm, tart, red Jonathan apples are needed for this recipe.
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Combine the sugar, flour and cinnamon. Put cored apples into individual ramekins. Fill each of the cored centers with half of the sugar mixture, then half of the butter and water. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Serve warm or cold.
3. To microwave, prepare apples as above. Cook on high for 1 1/2 to 3 minutes. Allow standing time.
