This is a delicious quick bread recipe from the early 1900’s. I found this newspaper clipping in my great grandmother’s cookbook. This yummy bread proves to be a timeless classic. Enjoy!
Cream egg and sugar together in a large mixing bowl.
Mix flours and salt with a whisk to blend. Add flour mixture alternating with buttermilk into the creamed mixture until everything is added to the mixer. Mix baking soda with the 2 Tablespoons of milk and add it to the batter. Gently mix until just combined. Pour into two greased loaf pans and bake at 350 degrees F for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Butter tops of bread and cool.
Slice and serve with your favorite butter topping. Lightly sweet and delicious!!
