For the person who hates to cook and needs to take something for a potluck, this is an ideal bread that will grace any table. Two ingredients and the bread! What can be easier than that?
Cream together the softened butter and the package of dry onion soup mix. Split your loaf of French bread lengthwise and spread the cut sides with the butter mixture. Then place the bread back together again. Wrap in foil and throw it in the back seat of your car. When you arrive at the party, take the bread in and ask the hostess to bake it at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. I prefer to take the bread apart before baking so the bread will get toasty, but it is good either way. Remove from the oven, then slice into diagonals and serve. This is a quick method to prepare bread that is meant for people who hate to cook but love to eat. My mother, the original Hostile Cook, would prepare this in a pinch. Easy peasy and the ingredients are always on hand.
