We have had these rolls at every holiday gathering, as long as I can remember. I look forward to them being left over every year!
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add 3 1/2 cups flour, egg, shortening, sugar, and salt. Mix well. Stir in remaining flour until dough is the right consistency. Let this rise in a warm place until doubled in size. Punch down. Divide dough in thirds. Roll out each third into an 18-inch circle. Spread with margarine. Cut into 16 pie piece shaped pieces. Roll triangle shaped pieces, starting at the end and rolling toward the point. Brush with melted margarine. Let rise again. Bake at 400ºF for 10 minutes.
