A simple loaf bread, soft and flavorful. Is it bread or is it desert? With cranberry, orange, and walnuts, it’s not sugary—just moist and sweet.
Kids like this bread, including picky “eww!” eaters.
Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Grease 2 loaf pans (9 x 5 x 3 inch pans).
Sift the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda into a large bowl. Cut in the shortening.
In a separate container, mix the orange zest, juice, and beaten eggs. Add to the dry ingredients.
Fold in the berries and nuts.
Turn into the greased loaf pans. Bake 1 hour. Cool in pan.
When cool, cover in plastic wrap and let sit overnight.
