Description

Scared of baking with yeast? This is a great recipe to get started. It’s quick to mix, easy to work with, and leaves you with garlic knots at the end of the day.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE DOUGH:
  • 1 package Instant Yeast, 0.25 Ounce Packet
  • 1 Tablespoon Honey Or Agave Nectar
  • ½ cups Warm Water
  • ½ cups Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 cup Bread Flour
  • ¾ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
  • _____
  • FOR THE GARLIC TOPPING:
  • 2 Tablespoons Melted Butter Or Olive Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic, Minced
  • ½ teaspoons Salt

Preparation

1. In a bowl, mix yeast, agave, and warm water. Let sit 5-10 minutes or until creamy.
2. In large bowl, mix flours and salt together.
3. Add yeast mixture and oil to flour mixture and knead until dough comes together and is smooth.
4. Put dough into an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise about 2 hours or until doubled.
5. Preheat oven to 450F.
6. Once dough has doubled, punch down.
7. Tear off golf-ball size rounds, roll out into long strips and tie into knots.
8. Place on baking sheet or stone and bake 11-12 minutes.
9. While hot, toss knots in mixture of olive oil or butter, minced garlic, and salt.

This is very easy and tasty!!!! yum! I am not an experience bread maker but I did it fine the first time. I improvise with adding shredded cheddar inside the golf ball dough before rolling and knotting them. it yields 9 buns for me. i also butter a bit and sprinkle dried rosemary and parmesan on top before baking. However, the salt in the butter that is brushed with garlic could be eliminated or reduced coz mine wast too salty, nevertheless a great recipe! Thanks Brandi. will make this again! :D
