Super yummy homemade croutons perfect for snacking or adding to your fancy salad.
Find a good bakery and get yourself a nice loaf of French or sour dough bread. Get it home and cut it into bite-sized pieces (I leave some a bit larger for snacking). Put the pieces in a large sheet pan and set aside.
Give your garlic cloves a good bash with your knife, then throw them in the pan with the bread, peel and all.
Sprinkle the bread and garlic with the salt, pepper and herbes de Provence. Drizzle olive oil over everything and toss lightly with your hands.
Bake in a preheated 325 degree oven for about 20 minutes. Shake the pan a bit, then bake for an additional 10 to 20 minutes or until your cubes are golden brown.
Discard the garlic cloves and let cool. Store in an airtight container until ready to use. I eat them alone as a snack, top a bowl of butternut squash or tomato soup with them, or in a salad dressed simply with balsamic vinegar and olive oil.
