Description

Easy to make cheesy bread with a flavourful kick.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole Lemon
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 2-¼ cups All-purpose Flour
  • 1-½ cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • ¼ cups Chopped Fresh Herbs (chives, Oregano, Sage, Etc)
  • ¾ teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ¾ teaspoons Baking Soda
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Unsalted Butter, Cubed

Preparation

Preheat oven to 375 F. Juice 1 tablespoon from your lemon and stir the juice with the milk and let it stand for 5 minutes. In another, bowl blend flour, cheese, herbs, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

Cut in the butter until crumbly (like small peas) using a pastry blender or two knives. Add the milk mixture until a ragged dough forms. Put the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly about 10 times.

Place dough onto a parchment-lined baking tray and pat into a 1-inch thick disk. Dust the top of the loaf with flour and score a large ‘X’ onto the top with a knife. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
