This bread really lives up to its name. I got the recipe from a friend, and have yet to find one that I like more.
Preheat the oven to 350F. Grease 2 loaf pans.
Cream together the shortening and sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer or food processor. Add the eggs and bananas; blend until the bananas are thoroughly mashed. Sift the flour, salt and baking soda into a separate bowl; stir in the wheat germ. Add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture and blend until just mixed.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pans, dividing it evenly. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes. The bread is done when the top springs back after being pressed in the center with your fingertips.
Note: I’ve tried this with half whole wheat flour, with great success. I’ve also added chocolate chips before, which is wonderful as well.

I really liked this recipe. I chose it because I had all the ingredients on hand, even wheat germ. I only had butter flavored shortening.
I told my mom that I realized after the bread was in the oven that the recipe didn’t have any spices but it didn’t need any! The flavor is great!
