Description

Being from ‘Ol Blighty, there are not a lot of my favourite foods over in the states so I’ve had to be creative and start making them my self.

One of my favourites is a good ‘ol fashioned flaky sausage roll.
This makes about 20 to 30 sausage rolls depending on how big you like them.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Lean Ground Pork Or Sausage Meat
  • 1 cup Bread Crumbs
  • 1 whole Medium Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 2 Tablespoons Chopped Parsley
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • ½ teaspoons Pepper
  • 1 package Pre Rolled Puff Pastry
  • 2 Tablespoons Mustard
  • 1 whole Egg

Preparation

Preheat your oven to 220c. (425 F.)

Mix together the meat, breadcrumbs, onion, parsley and salt and pepper in a bowl.

Lay sheets of pastry out on your counter top. Cut in to 3 sections width ways and 6 longways, this should leave you with 18 rectangles. (You can cut them larger so you get 9 from each sheet if you please) Do the same with the second sheet.

Brush a little mustard on each (or how much you like!)

Next get a ball of the meat mixture and place it on each pastry rectangle, then wrap the pastry around it like a cigar.

Paint each one with beaten egg.

Place in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes until brown.

These are really good hot or cold and are totally spectacular with some A1 brown sauce :)

Is funny, I grew up Stateside and never had a Sausage roll until I came to the UK. I know I can pop into a Greggs and grab one, but making my own sounds so much more fun! Thanks for the post.

Try brushing the inside pastry with a bit of Mango Chutney before wrapping around the sausage meat, very tasty!
