Description

Be it game night or a kids’ party, these simple-to-make cheese straws are the ultimate party hit.

Ingredients

  • 300 grams Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 150 grams Cold Butter, Diced
  • 1  Egg
  • 3 Tablespoons Water Or As Needed
  • 200 grams Cheddar Or Your Cheese Of Choice, Grated

Preparation

In a medium bowl, add flour, baking powder and salt. Add butter and use your fingertips to rub in the butter until there are no more lumps and texture is similar to breadcrumbs.

Stir in egg and water (start with about 3 tablespoons water and add more as needed). Knead into a firm ball of dough.

Roll out the dough to a thin square. Cut 1/4- to 1/2-inch wide strips, then cut strips in half horizontally.

Preheat oven to 180ºC (356°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment.

Carefully transfer dough strips onto the baking sheet. Sprinkle grated cheese on each straw. (If you’re making the wiggly worms for a kids’ party, you can put raisin eyes at the end of the straws.)

Bake cheese straws for 10–15 minutes, until crisp. Remove from oven when cheese is melted and golden brown. Leave cheese straws on the tray to cool.
