Description

These are incredible! My family always enjoys them as an appetizer around Christmas time.

Ingredients

  • 1 can Water Chestnuts, Whole
  • 1 package Bacon
  • 1 cup Barbecue Sauce

Preparation

Preheat broiler to high.

Cut each bacon strip in half and wrap each half around one water chestnut. Spear with a toothpick to secure.

Put the bacon wrapped water chestnuts in a bowl and coat gently with barbecue sauce (we like using classic Open Pit BBQ sauce).

Spread the water chestnuts on a baking sheet and broil for 10 minutes. Keep an eye on them as they tend to splatter grease.

Serve warm and enjoy!

(You can make these without the barbecue sauce as well!)

I make these as well, but just roll the bacon wrapped water chestnuts in brown sugar and pop in the oven until done.. Heavenly. I call them Mock Rumake.

I really like these with bbq sauce but I have a variation to the sauce that is really tasty too.

In a small saucepan combine 1/3 cup brown sugar
1 tsp mustard, 2 tsp worcestershire sauce, 2 tsp butter and 1 tsp soy sauce. Warm this over low heat until sugar melts . Pour over the bacon wrapped water chestnuts. YUM!

I’ve had these before – very good. Wasn’t too sure at first, but they are delicious. Looks like the same recipe.
