“Haole” means foreigner in Hawaiian and when I first made these, I couldn’t come up with a good name for them (they are kind of a knock off of the 7 layer bar but I didn’t really know WHAT to call them!) My friend Si decided that the perfect name for them was Haole Brownies because he had never had anything like them! The name stuck and they are frequently requested at luaus and get togethers!
Preheat oven to 350F and lightly grease an 8×8 or 9×9 pan.
In a bowl, combine all ingredients for the base/topping. Take 2/3 of the mixture and press into the bottom of the pan with the back of a spoon. Reserve the other 1/3 for the topping.
Run the sweetened condensed milk can under warm water to loosen it up a bit. Pour evenly over the graham crust mixture. Sprinkle the chocolate chips, macadamia nuts, and coconut evenly on top. (I used approximate measurements- feel free to use more or less of any ingredient!) then put the remaining base/topping mixture on top of that.
Bake at 350 for 25-35 minutes until the mixture is bubbly and slightly browned.
Serve with vanilla, macadamia nut, or butter pecan ice cream! Sooo ono!
