The title of this is a little deceiving. While the nuts make the top seem crispy, the brownie underneath is all that you’d want a brownie to be.: moist and chocolaty. These brownies are for chocolate and nut lovers only. If you were to leave out the nuts, they just wouldn’t be the same. If you leave them out, I might just think you were “nuts.”
In a large mixing bowl beat the eggs. Add the sugar and the vanilla and mix well.
In a small pan or in a microwave safe bowl melt the chocolate and the shortening together. When melted, add to the first mixture.
Then add the flour and mix.
Pour into a buttered 8-inch square pan. Sprinkle chopped walnuts on top.
Bake at 325 degrees for 28 to 32 minutes.
When I use a dark metal pan, they take 28 minutes. When I use a light aluminum pan, they take 31 minutes in my oven.
