Description

With the cheese and spices, this beer bread is the perfect accompaniment to a bowl of soup or a platter of roasted sausages and potatoes. It also makes for a killer grilled cheese sandwich!

From Bridget Edwards of Bake at 350.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Self-Rising Flour
  • 3 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Italian Seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • ¼ teaspoons Freshly Ground Black Pepper
  • 12 ounces, fluid Beer, At Room Temperature
  • 1 cup Grated Gruyere Cheese
  • ½ cups Grated Cheddar Cheese
  • 4 Tablespoons Butter, Melted

Preparation

Grease a 9 x 5 loaf pan with shortening. Preheat oven to 350ºF.

Stir flour, sugar, and spices together. Pour in beer and stir until foaming subsides and flour is incorporated. Fold in grated cheeses. Spoon into prepared pan and bake for 50–60 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean or an instant-read thermometer reads about 190ºF.

Immediately remove from pan and set on a wire rack on top of a rimmed baking sheet. Pour melted butter over the top and brush sides.

Let bread cool for 15 minutes or so, then serve warm. Once the bread is completely cooled, it can be sliced to use for sandwiches, toasted, or served plain.

Love this easy and delicious bread recipe! It’s so easy to follow I use it as a base for other beer breads, changing out the seasoning and cheese. Huge hit!
