I am SO disappointed!! I don’t have a lot of money so to go out and buy one of these large special onions is a treat for me. I saw this recipe and thought it would be wonderful- it’s not. Soaked the onion like I was supposed to, put it in the batter… the batter came right off. Waste of my onion. now i’m stuck with kraft dinner to eat.

Made these tonight! They were delish and so easy! I’ll definitely be making these again!

So easy! I’m glad I read the recipe carefully and saw that I needed to let the onions sit in the buttermilk for an hour. I recently went to Red Robin and they put onion strings on my burger, so I had to come home and try it myself–they were PERFECT!! Thank you for this one, Ree!

My family loves these! I had to double the batch last time just to make enough for everyone. The batter is so delicious and reminiscent of Jack in the Box (and that is a GOOD thing) but better! Make sure you let the oil get back to temp before dropping in the subsequent batches or you’ll end up with an unevenly cooked finished product. They still taste great though!

I made these the other night and they are delicious! I will probably add a bit more cayenne next time. I also added fresh jalapeno slices to the buttermilk and onions and dipped and fried them too. We use ranch dressing as our dipping sauce. Will definitely be making them again. Judy

These are absolutely amazing! I make them for our Friday fun food night and we devour them. Even my 2 year old son LOVES them.

Wonderful! My husband said he could make a meal just on these onion strings. They were easy to make and have a great taste. Thank you Ree for another delicious recipe.
