This is decadently dark, deep chocolate ice cream. I like to add chopped up squares of milk chocolate as well, just an ounce or two.
Place the chocolate chips in a large, heatproof bowl. Scald the cream in a small saucepan and pour over the chocolate. Let the mixture sit for a minute so the cream can begin to melt the chocolate. Whisk the cream and chocolate together to melt as much of the chocolate as you can.
Add the milk to the small saucepan to scald it as well. Pour the milk over the cream and chocolate mixture and whisk until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is combined. Place the mixture in the freezer until it becomes firm. Enjoy!
Makes about 1 quart.
