Make this! but read the reviews so avoid pitfalls. I took it to a birthday party & was worried because it wasn’t set when I arrived, but no one cared! It tasted so good they just dug in, mess & all. Eventually it did harden (it took about an hour because we were outdoors on a hot day), I was happy with the consistency. I used white chocolate chips and coconut oil, which I think added to flavor. For the cake mix, I followed the suggestion of other reviewers to decrease the amount to 5 tablespoons. Next time I will measure out the 1.5 cups of cake mix and add it 1 or 2 spoonfuls at a time, stopping when it gets to a good consistency. I took a layered approach to adding the coating to the popcorn, I added one third of all of the ingredients at a time to mix them and I think this helped for a more even distribution. Will definitely make again!

I made mine with rainbow chip cake mix so I didn’t have to buy sprinkles. The batter was a little think with the above measurements so I added about 1/4 cup more oil and also was able to use 10 cups of popcorn. Very yummy!

This was tatsy, but not perfect. The amount of cake mix is too much. The mixture was so thick I had to add some oil to thin it. I think even half a cup of cake mix would be plenty. As the recipe is written the popcorn was super sweet. Cute idea, though. The guests at my daughter’s b-day loved it.

We made this for family movie night – yum! We found that the white chocolate/cake mix mixture went pretty far; we easily used 10+ cups of popcorn. I was glad, because there was more to eat! We did have to hide it in the pantry the next day, and it still did not last 24 hours.

Ok so I have what is probably a stupid question lol but for the cake mix, do you keep it dry from out of the box or do you mix it with the eggs and such then use it? Lol

This is perfect! My daughter and a group of 12 girls are exchanging recipes today, and sharing treats. I’m bringing this one. I’ve seen in all over pinterest lately, too, so I can’t be the only one that thinks this one’s a winner! I’ll let you know how it turns out. (I’m using mini M&Ms, ’cause I’m not a fan of sprinkles)

I just made this and I’m super excited to see how it turns out! When I made it, I followed the recipe as written on Tasty Kitchen (using 1 1/2 cups cake mix); the chocolate/cake mixture was pretty thick and it was somewhat difficult to coat the popcorn. I just checked out the recipe on Mrs. Schwartz’s blog and it says to use 1 cup cake mix — I guess that typo is the problem! I’m waiting for it to harden, hopefully it will turn out. Next time I’ll definitely only use 1 cup though.
